Metta; the standard

Metta is a standard for environmental impact neutrality. Companies and organisations can be assessed against the Metta standard and compensate for their environmental impacts after they have minimised and mitigated the impacts to the maximum extent possible: 100% impact neutrality over a certain period of time in the past, yields a Metta certificate for that timeframe.

The objective is to first avoid, minimize, restore and mitigate impacts affecting the environment and the landscape as much as possible by improving the operations of the company or organisation. The impacts that still remain after that - the residual environmental footprint - can then be compensated through Metta by initiating or supporting projects or activities that improve or restore the environment, nature and landscape aesthetics in a comparable manner. Ideally those activities are undertaken as close as possible to the facility of the company or organisation.
